Designers of the Future

Brick by Brick is a design lab. The group at Mater love using Sketchup to invent new landscapes, cityscapes, architectures. All these things are called into question and made dynamic using their imaginations.

Temra's Sketchup project, Girl Power

Architecture and entrepreneurship come together using Sketchup - Temra imagines a pool house and a van with her business logo on it.

Mater Academy creates new worlds in Sketchup

Moving on from our 3d models of cityscapes, constructed out of cardboard, we enter the realm of 3D drafting, via Sketchup, a free download from Google. Here's what Brian and Nicolas from Mater Academy are working on. Once the sketchup model is built, and scenes are added, an animation file is exported to iMovie, where the boys can add a sound track and other video effects - a multimedia experience of a floating theme park.

A visiting designer at Girl Power

Laz Ojalde of LMNOQ Studio, is a product and industrial designer, and he visited with us at Girl Power yesterday. We hope that Laz will be able to work with us at Brick by Brick - he has designed some amazing things for his many clients. Here are a few images: clock, hanging rack, table, room divider made of recycled vintage cans!

Please check out more of his work at his website LMNOQ.

Drawing at Girl Power

Color added to the white cities

By painting our city maquettes white, we had a chance to really observe - and draw - the forms we constructed. The white paint also gave us a perfect base for the application of color. Instead of paint, we layered colored tissue paper with diluted glue, and were really wowed by the effects we saw - bleeding, seeping, colors mixing - almost like stained glass. It's amazing how powerful color is - everyone was really into it!

Drawing elevations

At both Mater Academy and Girl Power, we took the opportunity to make drawings of the North, South, West, and East elevations of our city models. We viewed elevation drawings made by architects, and also the models used to explore design concepts and for presentations.
